No one is happier than me that you’ve popped in to see what’s on offer here.
I know there’s a lot of advice online about writing in a very focussed way about that one thing that you know a great deal about.
But I won’t be doing that here.
I like to chase my mind wherever it happens to go when the harness is off: the past, relationships and family, food and cooking, nature, books of course and especially meaningful poetry. I might touch on Marc Chagall’s blue, anxiety (an unwanted but persistent lifetime companion), mysticism, animals (especially scruffy dogs of any kind), music and why I still miss liner notes.
You might well find the tiny sparkles of everyday life such as buying a bit of vintage china in a thrift shop or snarfing back hot buttered toast on a grey, rainy afternoon dwelled upon and appreciated here. (Especially helpful if you’re just coming off the ramp of The Existential Highway, a route I strenuously try to avoid but frequently find myself navigating.)
You should also know that I have a persistent nostalgia for all things British even though I’m Canadian.
There’s also love & love lost & love regained.
You get the idea.
Lest you find all this a wee bit self-indulgent, I should point out that I truly believe that making oneself vulnerable on the page is potentially quite useful to others as well as to the writer herself.
And not to come over all Aristotelian when you’ve only just arrived, but honest, heartfelt sharing – whether presented in a chat, poetry or writing - can be extremely affirming and dare I say, uplifting.
My posts will always be quick reads - often funny - and I very much hope that you will be tempted to read more than one. I’ll try to post regularly.
Your interest in my writing is a cherished validation and I beg encourage you to leave a comment as it will make my little sparrow heart sing.
All posts are FREE – and ‘tis no big thing to unsubscribe at any time.
Now, if you’re sitting comfortably, let’s begin!
P.S. Wondering about the newsletter’s name? It’s inspired by a quote generally attributed to Oscar Wilde (and even if he didn’t say, he certainly would have!) “Be Yourself: Everyone Else is Taken.” I am doing my best.
Right up my alley.
Just be you - because you know you, you're interesting and interested and as Oscar Wilde says, 'Everyone else is taken...'
Onwards, Sue and this is very exciting. Would love to recommend you.
You had me at “Aristotelian,” Sue, then you had me again mentioning Oscar Wilde!
